NEWS: Anambra State Government announces plans to establish a basic waste-to-wealth plant in the state
Governor Willie Obiano, who disclosed that Anambra Government is set to install waste-to-wealth processing plant during the recent World Environment Day, lamented that the state was currently being ravaged by erosion, which he contributed partly to the not so serious approach of the citizenry to issues concerning the environment.
Dr. Nkem Okeke, who spoke through his deputy, enjoined citizens of the state to adopt positive attitudinal change towards the environment for posterity.
He blamed the global warming, green house effect and depletion of the ozone layer to negative attitudes against the environment which, he said, included poor waste disposal, building on water paths and poor construction methods. He stated that the state would continue to take more pragmatic steps towards solving the problem and in the process generate revenues.
Romanus Ejikeme, The Commissioner for Environment, Beautification and Ecology, had said earlier that ‘the essence of the event was to raise people’s awareness and consciousness towards adopting good attitude and mobilization for action towards the environment’.
