The Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASSU, held a meeting on Thursday to discuss about the ongoing industrial strike.
The meeting which was held at the conference room of the Minister of Labour and Employment ended after much deliberation on issues that led to the industrial dispute.
Briefing newsmen shortly after the meeting, both sides said there was tremendous progress following offers made by government and position of the union on the new offers.
The representatives of the government and ASUU refused to disclose the
offers.
According to the ASUU President, he was taking the deliberations and offers giving by government to members with a view to responding appropriately
to them within one week.
However the government, represented by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige and his education counterpart, Adamu Adamu and ASUU representatives, led by its president, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, agreed to come together within a week ,to continue the negotiations.
